Daily Tip

The teeth on a saw blade must always point down. Remember to check this when installing the blade.

I know this seems kind of like a given, but I thought it may be worth mentioning. Having the blade installed properly willl help to eliminate all kinds of problems. Front side tear outs, the work piece jumping up and down on the table, and dreaded fuzzies on the front (when working with spirals) will all be eliminated if you have properly installed the blade.

The teeth on some blades make it difficult to determine which way they face visually, but we can easily detect the direction by using our fingers. Pinch the blade lightly between the balls of your fingers; pull the blade in an downward direction through your finger tips; if you feel the teeth "snagging" then you have the blade facing the correct direction and are ready to install it. If you don't feel that snag flip the blade end for end and try it again you should now be ready to install the blade in the saw and let the dust start flowing.
