Daily Tip

Consider leaving large cut outs in place to help with stability during sanding

Jeff – First of all, I want to say that I love your work.  It is challenging but that is what makes it interesting.  Anyway, I have been scrolling for about three years.  I have just completed six of your big horn sheep projects.  These are now being used by my company as going away gifts for employees.

  Any, here’s my tip:

When I do a pattern like yours that ends up with a lot of material removed, some finish sanding is always required.  To keep from having the scroll work disintegrate when I do the clean up sanding, I simply leave the bigger cut out waste wood pieces in place.  This helps to support any delicate areas but will typically require a bit more cleanup than you may normally have to remove additional sawdust that may be trapped in the slot surrounding the waste piece.

Hope this is something that someone can use.  Keep up the good work…
