Daily TipStraight lines can be tough to cut, there are a couple things you can do to make them easier Straight lines are the bane of scrollers everywhere. Here's a few things that have helped me, maybe one of them will work for you as well. You probably already know this, but if you are using a straight blade it is going to want to drift left on you, so you will actually have to feed the wood at a slight angle instead of straight into the blade. This will sound crazy, but try feeding faster... to help illustrate this try walking across the floor heel to toe very slowly, it's a challenge to keep your balance, but you don't have any trouble walking normal speed. Cutting works the same way, when we slow the feed rate down, the blade tends to drift more then if we feed at a faster rate. One last tip try a spiral, I know now you really think I have lost my mind, but there are a couple things you can do with a spiral that you can't do with a straight blade. First you can use the side of the blade to "sand" out any little wiggles you get in your line. Also and again you are going to think I am nuts, try pulling the wood towards you and using the back of the spiral to do the cutting. I don't know if it is psychological or what, but I do know it works. The blade is much easier to control and your line will look much straighter. |
