Daily TipTry cutting straight lines by pulling the wood into the blade rather then pushing it. Today's tip come to you courtesy of the Happy Hillbilly on my message board. As most of us know, Jeff's patterns are best cut with spiral blades. There are few straight lines in his patterns, but they do appear. Something I found that works well for me is to position the straight cut so that I'm pulling it towards me. I seem to be able to guide the cut better then when pushing the line into the blade. I'm sure most scrollers know this, but thought I would pass it along anyway. Keep a scrolling on,Mystic Lake Hillbillyboy. This a great tip hillbilly, and one that I use as well. I can't explain why it works, but it does it seems to be much easier to keep the blade where you want it on those long straight cuts when you pull the wood. Is it because you are concentrating a little more because the blade is harder to see? could be all I know is you are absolutely correct. Another great thing about spirals is when you get little wiggles in your straight lines, you can use the side of the blade with very little pressure against to help "sand" the wiggles out. |
