Daily Tip

Have trouble finding the holes you drilled on the bottom of your piece? Try a sharpie marker

Today's tip comes courtesy of an e-mail from Ervin Miles

Jeff I have a tip that I have been using after drilling all of the entrance holes. Once you have done this take a Sharpie pen, the ones with the felt tip, (any color will work, but I use black) and lightly touch each hole. This will make it much easier to locate the next cut out to be made. I came up with this when I was doing a 36"x18' cut. I have a scroll saw with a 16" throat and feed the blade from underneath. I was having trouble locating the holes so I thought I would try this. Now I do this on all of the cuts. This won't work if you display both sides unless the cut outs are large enough to rid any of the ink that might run with the grain. Also the ink might go through to the front on very thin wood. I have not tried it on 1/32" or 1/16'. You could also use differ ant colors to separate sections to be cut first or later.

This idea may already be in use but, I haven't seen or read about it just thought I would pass it along to you. Feel free to pass it along to fellow scrollers.

Great tip, Thanks Ervin!
