When Stack cutting avoid using anything that will create voids between the sheets of wood

I get this question a lot: When you stack cut how do you keep each piece from breaking into the space between the boards?

When you stack or production cut as it is sometimes called, the idea is to cut many pieces of wood as one solid piece. If you have voids between the boards you are defeating the purpose of stacking your wood.

Those of you who use spirals know that when you stack your wood properly there is almost no fuzz on the backs of your work with the exception of the bottom piece. A properly stacked bundle of wood will also help add stability to an otherwise fragile design.

Use something to hold to your stack together that doesn't create voids. Masking tape, hot glue, brads, even pieces of paper coated with spray adhesive and sandwiched between your boards will all nicely work. Avoid using two sided tape unless it perfectly flat, or you will have problems.
