Daily Tip

Try something different to clean up the fuzzies that a spiral leaves

Spiral blades have made it possible to cut incredibly intricate designs in wood, with a minimum of effort, unfortunately, most of the time they leave behind huge amounts of fuzz, that would make even the biggest peach jealous.

Sanding, scraping with a razor, and using a rotary tool are all viable options, but sometimes cleaning up our piece in this manner will take longer then it took to cut the pattern.

Next time you are faced with this problem, consider using a torch, yep I said a torch.

Using a torch is a fast and effective way to get rid of those stubborn fuzzies with a minimal effort. Any fuzzies that are left behind will be scorched black, blending them nicely with the black backer we put behind our pieces.

Of course, there some things to keep in mind, turn the flame way down, move the torch quickly, and most importantly never use a torch on wood you have used any kind of finish or solvent on.

If you get a little scorching on the front of your cutting, fold up a scrap of sandpaper and rub it gently over the edge. It will remove all but the most stubborn scorches.
