Daily TipDon't let a complex pattern intimidate you This is probably the single most important tip anyone will ever give you with regards to your scroll sawing... BE CONFIDENT I hear from a lot of people who say your patterns are beautiful, but I could never cut one they are too hard. Cutting a complex pattern does present some challenges, but all of the patterns on this site have been shop tested and can be cut. Believe it or not, there is really not much more involved in cutting one of these complex patterns then there is in cutting a simpler one. The basics are still same start in the center of the pattern and work out. Yes my patterns are full of areas that are very close together and often will be pretty fragile when completed, but they are doable. If you believe in your abilities and cut with confidence you will surprise yourself with what you can do. However if you lack confidence in your abilities, and you think you will fail, you run a real risk of creating a "self fulfilling prophecy". Another reason that having the confidence to push your scrolling farther then you think you can go, is it will make you a better scroller. If all you ever cut are things you know you can get through, you will never develop better skills and techniques. It is only by pushing ourselves beyond what we think we can do that we learn new tricks and techniques. Next time you see a pattern that makes you take a deep breath and say I don't know, pretend you are that little train from our childhood stories ad say ... I THINK I CAN You'll be surprised at how often you are right
